Introduction

Professionally I have supported individuals with highly complex needs for 30 years. In my experience it is essential to first understand individuals as unique individuals irregardless of their label or challenges and develop a trusting relationship. In the context of a therapeutic relationship difficulties can be discussed openly and change and growth can occur. Counselling is a therapeutic space for individuals to understand themselves and collaboratively work through challenges and develop skills to improve their quality of life.

“The curious paradox is the more accept myself as I am, the more I change” Carl Rogers

Psychotherapy

As a psychotherapist I support clients through a mindfulness driven model focusing on my client’s thoughts, emotions and experiences within their appointment. My goal as a psychotherapist is to understand the individual I am meeting with as a unique individual with their own thoughts, emotions and experiences and how they relate to their unique challenges. This process provides self-awareness for my clients which then supports their capacity to change.

Within this model a number of approaches can be incorporated in a collaborative model with my clients which can include:

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Processing traumatic experiences

Psychoeducation

Exposure based approaches

Behavioural Activation

Relational approaches
